Happy Birthday to you...

Potluck

What do you get when you mix a bunch of colours, an eight course meal, and the staff of Apathy is Boring? A colourful birthday potluck! Continuing the A is B tradition of interesting potlucks, this month we went all out. From one hat, you choose one course of an 8 course meal (salad, appetizer, side dish, main course, entremet, amuse-bouche, dessert, and drink). From another hat, you choose a colour (yep that's right, a colour). Then, you get cooking.

Up first was the white beverage produced by Pete - A delicious yet potent vegan “eggnog” with a hearty dose of rum.

Followed was a blue amuse-bouche prepared by Minal – Fresh blueberries and blackberries on a toothpick tantalized our taste buds.

Next was a black appetizer by Emile – After a few failed attempts that morning at home made vegan blackberry scones, Emile broke down, stopped at Tim Horton's, and concocted a chocolate donut blackberry skewer.

Although salad should have come next, we decided to skip straight to Gen's green main course and Derrick's yellow side dish as we were all feeling a bit sugar high (or maybe it was the rum) – Gen whipped up a pine nut and spinach pasta and Derrick slaved over a hot stove to create a corn casserole.

We followed the main course with a red palate cleanser made by Ilona. It seemed that Ilona was trying to make up for a scathing critique she received at our last potluck. She did her research and made beautiful chocolate cups filled with fresh raspberries, strawberries, two kinds of sorbet and mint.

This was followed by Bernard's pink salad. At 11:00 am that morning, Bernard bolted out of the office and came back with his pink salad – yup that's right; it was a carton of strawberry soy ice cream. He later said the choice was between that and salmon.

I finished off the meal with my orange dessert. Lime orange coconut cupcakes with fresh clementine pieces to top it off.

It was a pretty great way to celebrate some office birthdays (Happy Birthday Derrick and Geneviève) – although no work was completed for the rest of the day.
